A moment of thought...

No, I have never been a great fan of MJ. In fact I have not even been a fan. To me his has always been a name of a King, the ‘King of the Formidables’; a ruler who defied all the rules; a name that I kept hearing time and again, for good and bad. For me his was an aura that had daunted many around me… my cousins, friends, everyone could be seen doing the ‘moonwalk’ and his trademark - aaauuuu! But then even If I was not a contribution to his massive sales, I have heard so much about him to quite know him about all.

And today as I hold the newspaper with news of his shocking death, I feel guilty and heartbroken. Guilty, ya guilt - to have not given him his due in his life, to have missed an opportunity to live and enjoy an era with the King himself, to not have heard him a lot more. Today as I sit in front of MTv I can watch all his numbers with a liking undying and I make it a point to watch them too, to pay him all my regards, in his death. But these are just a few of my first ‘long stayed’ reactions which after days of his death have seen all upheavals. As if the report of his death was not enough, his autopsy reports now and then have been disturbing and heart rendering. Needle marks on all parts of his body are like stones of loneliness and criticism he was embraced with in life. The media has been dissecting each and every aspect of his life and death, and surprisingly it has been lot politer this time. Everyone has been focusing a lot on his comeback shows from 13th while the same people would have ripped him off for not performing if he would have failed on stage. No one seems to accept him the way he was, everyone talks of changing him to their advantage. Today I, as we all should, realize & am ashamed of the fact that the media had made controversies even over his most joyful acts of love! I don’t see anything wrong in MJ showing the new born ‘Prince’ to the world Happiness of being a father, a king with his little one. We all loved and respected the same gesture in The Lion King where Mufasa showed his cub Simba from the cliff to the herd.

It is so disturbing that me, a stranger to MJ, prays secretly night and day to have MJ alive - hale and hearty, hidden away from the world watching all the pain, the agony each of his fan is going through and the shock that the world went through, losing the very best. I wish to just once hug him and show how much everyone around loves him, even the controversial him and even the ‘not on stage for a while’ him. He was like a blessing, there with us till he was; a torch ready to spread light whenever you need; the ailing at heart aptly chosen as the immensely intense singer of “Heal of the world”.

And his story is no new. In India itself we have seen a lot of actors die similarly - lonely and in vain. It’s a due that we all forget to pay to our loved ones. It’s a lack of a real close relation that drives stars to a supernova engulfing all they achieved. It’s up to us and because of us. We killed MJ as we have been killing talent since years in states of despair. And Oh yes, here too it definitely does not matter if the person is White or Black!

It’s a moment in each day I go through; I’ll miss the name reverberating all around me. I’ll miss any opportunity to ever feel his presence around the world, I ll miss the Thriller of his comebacks. He taught me in death to love him, yes I’ll miss him for the majestic presence. Yes, It’s a moment that I proclaim to myself that...Yes, I am his fan!

  1. The feelings that you have quoted reside in each of us, but are hard to come out. We hardly appreciate icons like MJ publicly, however deep inside our hearts we are a fan of them. I kept listening to his name and sometimes to his numbers since I gained senses, and now when he is no more, its really hard to believe it..!!!

Nice post...keep it up...and thanks for jotting down the feelings that most of the hiding MJ "fans" would have never come up with... :)

  2. A Beautifully Composed Echo of hearts - of so many of such unrealized fans of this fabulous personality, resonating the same tune...

it was an unusual morning of friday when i woke up EARLY to go to Office,
    and switched on the TV
    surfed to Times Now
    saw the MJ
    A Big Red-Blue-White
    Breaking News
    Wat it is!

    Oh No!!!
    Unbelievable but the truth

    MJ is no more...

and all of sudden i got a nostalgic stroke,

By the end of the day though i was fully absorbed by all other jobs of mine and surrounding friends,

but smwhere smthing was being unusual, and that's wat the very thought, u posted here.

Really He deserved a better treatment from us, and definitely a better end than that

i just want to add just one more thing - spritual side- that this sad demise of MJ just remind us one great TRUTH, that Death is only the ULTIMATE TRUTH...

    Well

    Rest in Peace Michael

quoting from his own composition and performance on MTV

    Yes MJ

You'll always be here in our heart,

    We'll miss You!

  3. Yeah, you are right. MJ was a real legend or it may not be wrong to say he is a legend who will always hold his place in the hearts of his fans.

But the irony that i would like to mention here is, news about MJ's fans commiting suicide. That is also insane aspect of the story. That shows how deeply people idiolize or love the celebrities.

So, now there's a open question, how much it is right for the followers or lovers to get frenzied upto the extent where they start thinking of commiting suicide if something goes wrong to their so called 'Idol'.

Neverthless, we should pray for MJ to rest in peace and also thank him for the entertainment and music that he has provided to his followers (which I was not).

  5. Gauri...thts a thought worth a thought! well an Idol itself is a mere idol...'sirf ek murti hai' and worth only till it glitters. But, then we come across all forms of love in this world koi radha to koi Meera, koi prem ka pyaasa koi daras ko bawara, par prashan ye hai ki how many idols are actually worthy like Lord Krishna... under the relativity theory!!

According to me idols are just someone you wanted to be, your hidden aspirations or ones you connect with. We should follow them to be their support and to share their victory. But, we often forget to be a part of their losses when they need our support the most.

And thats what happened with MJ too as with many before him... and abt the suicides - I request to all those with a similar urge, dont mix ur life wid ur idols'life. We all need to understand tht as everyone is born different, everyone needs to live different and achieve differently. And for the look alikes, may be God wanted to give the lovely face another and an even better chance... so think over it and act wisely. Dying along is easy, living in love to achieve ur dream's dreams is tough but more full filling to ur idol. Have my word for it, respect life, live life...and be happy to spread happiness...!!!

  7. Pahli baat, tumne meri theme chori ki hai !! copy-cat :)
Well, I have nothing to add about MJ, Music is not my territory, specially western !!
Would just add, MJ was failed in handling success !! Common people failed in handling defeat, less common (Like MJ) some time failed in handling success. i Guess Handling success is as imp. as being successful.

  8. Pehli baat apne iss theme par likhna shurur b nahi kiya tha, to mujhe kaise pata chalega??!!! and dusri...ya u r right to some extent, but then media spares none. Most of the time its untimed fame and then cliffside fall is what people fail in handling.
This is a time for media to sit and rhetrospect that it should not only salute the rising sun, but also give due credit or support t a fazing out star. A star that had real sunny days, remains in hearts of everyone undoubtedly and may even rise again brighter than sun...

  9. I am not talking about the theme with regard to what you have written. I am talking about the backgroud theme. Samajh aaya aapko !!

Second thing, i guess we can not blame media/people. Having no personal life is a small price that person have to pay for being celebrity. And above all when u are at the position, where your act can impact people at large, u need to be more sincere and responsible. If you not, then only God can save you. But how many times ???
